The Jets lose a tough one in Overtime!

Chad Pennington reinjured his right shoulder during a sack on Sunday's loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Now the Jets (1-2) will also have to deal with a banged up Curtis Martin who rushed for 67 yards on 18 carries. Under their new offensive coordinator Mike Heimerdinger the Jets worked on producing a much longer passing game during summer camp. This will be tough to accomplish with Chad Pennington nursing a sore shoulder as well as backup QB Jay Fielder who also bruised his shoulder during the game as well. The Jets retaliated in the 4th quarter to tie the game at 20-20 and send it into OT on the last drive. The Jags were wearing down the Jets defense all game and finally won on a 36 yard slant-n-go pass to Jimmy Smith 6:05 into OT.

Season Opener Results

The New York Jets vs. Kansas City Chiefs season opener didn't go as planned for Herman Edwards, the Jets head coach. The Jets lost 27-7 with a defensive that looked slow and an offense that looked out of sync. The Jets turned over the ball three times on six fumbles. Curtis Martin ran the ball 20 times for only 57 yards. Chris Baker the Jets tight end had their only score off a pass from backup QB, Jay Fielder. Look here for a Jets preview against next weeks game against the Miami Dolphins.
